Our History
Origins (1959–1970s)
The story began in 1959, when John and Mary Gura opened what was then called Lakeside Golf Course. Designed by Al Blazek, the course was built as a par-72 public layout, featuring tree-lined fairways, elevated greens, and water hazards that added both beauty and challenge. From its earliest days, Lakeside earned a reputation as a friendly, affordable course where the community could come together.
Growth & Improvements (1970s–2000s)
In 1972, the Guras passed the course on to their daughter Joan and her husband, Allen Blazek, who expanded the vision. By 1975, a new back nine was added, transforming the layout into a full 18-hole course. Over the years, the Blazeks and their four children improved the facilities, expanding the clubhouse, adding a patio and pavilion, and hosting countless leagues, outings, and community events.
A Family Legacy (2000s)
For decades, Lakeside remained a family affair. By the 2000s, the Blazek grandchildren had taken the reins, bringing fresh energy to course maintenance, marketing, and clubhouse operations. Upgrades like improved irrigation and modern equipment elevated course conditions, while traditions such as charity outings, youth programs, and community events kept the spirit of John and Mary Gura alive.
A New Chapter
Now known as Lake Milton Golf Club, the course is entering an exciting new era under fresh ownership. While preserving its rich history and family-driven spirit, the club has been revitalized with a renewed focus on course quality, hospitality, and memorable experiences for today’s golfers.
